What is Meditox?

Meditox is a comprehensive outpatient opiate detoxification program. It is not a type of medication and it is not available over the Internet. To learn more about how Meditox's treatment program works please click here.

What is the difference between Suboxone and Subutex?

Suboxone and Subutex are both medications approved for the treatment of opiate dependence. Both medications contain the active ingredient, buprenorphine hydrochloride, which works to reduce the symptoms of opiate dependence. Subutex contains only buprenorphine hydrochloride. Suboxone contains an additional ingredient called naloxone which is included to discourage people from dissolving the tablet and injecting it.

Can you recommend a doctor in my area?

Unfortunately, we cannot recommend or refer you to other doctors. There are a number of physicians that do drug detoxification but we cannot vouch for their protocols, effectiveness or experience. Whoever you choose, we highly recommend that you use a doctor that is a substance abuse specialist like the physicians at Meditox.

Can my normal physician prescribe Suboxone to me?

Physicians must be licensed to prescribe Suboxone. While there are many physicians that are licensed to prescribe Suboxone, there are few that have the experience that Meditox doctors have at treating opiate addiction. Our physicians and our treatment program specialize in treating people dependent on pain medication, methadone or heroin. Additionally, the Meditox Method uses a variety of medications in addition to Suboxone to ensure your detox is safe, painless and effective.

Do I have to visit a Meditox office?

Yes, you have to visit one of Meditox's offices one time only in order to be assessed and examined by a board certified physician. You will also be introduced to your Case Manager, who is a Registered Nurse and drug abuse specialist, and will work with you over the course of the six week program on a one to one basis to ensure your safe and successful detox.

How long do I have to stay?

The office visit usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours. If you live close to one of our offices you can have someone drive you to our office and drive you home after your appointment. If you are flying in from out of town, we suggest that you arrive the evening before your appointment, stay at a local hotel then come into our office the next morning. You may return to your hotel or go home later that afternoon.

Do you have to live in the state where you are being treated?

No, we treat people from all over the country. This program was developed for people who have busy and demanding lives and do not have the time or money for inpatient care or hospitalization. You must visit a Meditox office only once in order to complete a thorough assessment by a board certified psychiatrist and to be assigned a case manager (registered nurse and drug abuse specialist) who will work with you throughout the course of treatment. After your appointment you will return home to continue the course of treatment under our supervision and care.

If I'm from out of town, where do I stay?

We suggest that you stay at a hotel close to our office or close to the airport. There are a wide variety of hotels near all of our offices and we are happy to make a few suggestions. Additionally, can arrange for a car to pick you up for your appointment and take you back to your hotel after your appointment.

What forms of payment does Meditox accept?

We accept Visa, Master Card and American Express as well as cashier's checks and cash. Unfortunately, we do not accept personal checks.

Are medications covered in the cost of treatment?

No, prescription medication is not covered in the cost of treatment. However, if you have an insurance plan that covers prescription medication we can assist you in ordering the medications using your insurance to minimize the cost.

Do you take insurance?

Meditox does not work with any insurance companies directly. Unfortunately, the time and effort necessary to submit payment requests and the extended amount of time it takes to collect payment from insurance companies in prohibitive and would force us to raise the cost of our services. Additionally, most insurance plans do not cover an extended outpatient detox like the one offered by Meditox. Generally, insurance companies will pay for a 4 to 10 day detox which has proven to be ineffective. The relapse rate for short term treatment is greater and we will not care for our patients according to the dictates of an insurance company whose principal issue is the bottom line. Meditox is committed to your successful, long term recovery.
