Florida Drug Detox

The State of Florida has a large number of clinics providing detoxification treatment to patients seeking to become free of opiates. Because of its location and proximity to countries like Colombia, obtaining heroin and other opiates in Florida is not at all difficult.

Most individuals who are addicted to opiates and wish to become drug free find the only method of treatment available to them is found in methadone clinics. The laws governing the placement of these clinics is quite stringent: each clinic must be located at least fifty miles from the next nearest program.

Several medical doctors in the state each own a number of methadone clinics. For a number of years, Dade County in South Florida operated a methadone clinic which was the only competitor in the area. However, several years ago, the county gave up operating this clinic and sold it to a local doctor in the area who owned the three other area programs - making him "the only game in town".

Consequently, patients who have become addicted to pain killers through no fault of their own, as well as those individuals who chose to use heroin, morphine and other "hard drugs", are all required to attend the same clinic and receive the exact same form of treatment. While the staff is mandated by the Federal Government to protect the confidentiality of the clients, there is no such guarantee to assure that the other clients will not casually reveal their identities to friends, etc.

Additionally, patients have no choice as to which clinic they attend since all of them in South Florida are run by the same company.

However, the Meditox Program in West Palm Beach provides its' patients with Buprenorphine/Suboxone which is an effective medication that eliminates the discomfort of withdrawal symptoms and makes the detox process safe and easy to tolerate. Our clinic is designed to treat highly-motivated individuals who have the desire to become drug free. Daily attendance and close supervision of our patients is not required and you will be able to continue with your career or education without interruption. In addition, the nature of our program is such that you can be assured of privacy and confidentiality.

Florida Detox Centers

At Meditox, we use the drug buprenorphine to help patients detoxify from opiate dependencies on an outpatient basis. This is a process that could not have been done even two years ago, and it's thanks to advances in medicine and government approval that we now have access to this drug. Its use to curb drug cravings in people addicted to opiates has shown phenomenal success in helping them live drug-free.

What makes buprenorphine so amazing isn't just that it can curb cravings without being habit-forming. The drug's properties give it minimal potential for abuse, and it can be effectively taken in a simple oral pill form. This allows for patients to detoxify in their home environments--which itself also lends to remarkable success.

When people don't have to put their lives on hold to detoxify, they find that they are able to focus on their detox. If you remove someone from their daily life, they worry about it while in detox, and then are more likely to relapse once re-introduced to it. In the end, outpatient procedures don't just make detox less expensive--they also make it more effective.

The use of buprenorphine has really allowed for detoxification programs to cash in on the promise of the psychological benefits of an outpatient program. Now that it's feasible, safe, effective, and affordable to conduct outpatient detox, we predict it will soon become an industry standard.
