Top 10 Signs of Cocaine Addiction
Cocaine is a highly addictive drug of choice for many jet-setters and entertainers because it enables them to party all night long. Many students get hooked on cocaine or “coke” because it’s a stimulant and allows them to stay up and cram for finals or write a term paper for days on end.
Think you can’t get hooked? Thank again. Many users start thinking they’ll only try it once or use on a recreational basis. It isn’t that easy.
Here are some signs of cocaine addiction:
- You can’t get out of bed in the morning without snorting, shooting or smoking cocaine.
- Cocaine addicts experience frequent nosebleeds as the membranes inside their noses deteriorate.
- Those who are hooked on cocaine lose their appetites and experience rapid weight loss.
- You find yourself stealing to fund your habit. Many cocaine addicts start out stealing from loved once and soon turn to breaking into other homes, cars and businesses.
- Cocaine users are often irritable. Because cocaine is a stimulant, when users crash they experience mood swings.
- Cocaine users are often paranoid and sometimes hear “voices” in their heads.
- You call out of work or take days off school quite often.
- You have an elevated heart rate and often heel as if your heart is “racing” – and it probably is.
- You talk at a rapid fire pace, and find you can’t stop talking.
- Your house is littered with spoons, mirrors, rolled up bills and straws. At first you take special care in hiding these from people but soon you become very careless and leave all your paraphernalia out in the open.
Be aware of these signs in your self or the people around you, the sooner you spot them the sooner you can get help!

my son is 39 and cannot handle having any money because he smokes crack. I understand this is the hardest drug to overcome. Can you help ? He gets clean because he has no money and his attitude is more like himself until he gets a paycheck and it’s downhill from there. He got his first paycheck last week and didn’t buy one ounce of food and he started getting irritable and sloppy on himself. I know he got a hold of drugs over last weekend even though he managed to go to work. I need help and he needs to go into a program. He did go to the V.A. daily for about 4 months last year. He never did go away to a re-hab center and that’s what he needed. What do you suggest?
