I know, Kelly! This substitution of one addiction for another is nuts in some ways, but in other ways, it's easier to trade one life threatening addiction for another less-life-threatening one and then step down again, and then again, as you feel ready. Those temptations are evil and sometimes it's just finding ways to reduce the harm you do to yourself as you take the time you need to slowly acclimate to a new life and lifestyle. That's awesome that you kicked in 3 days! Seriously, you are a strong person. Congratulations. How did you deal with the temptations?

I Know that my story is a little different but I can relate with you all..A long time ago, about 10 years ago, I was a heroin addict..When I decided to quit I went to detox. At that time they hadn't developed the soboxone or subutex yet..We got a 3 day shot in the ass of buprinex..(incorrect spelling but you know what I'm talking about)..I was doing approx 8 bags of heroin a day..3 days of plain old buprinex did the job for me..The only thing I had to worry about was the temptations when I got out..I felt totally detoxed when I was released on the third day though. It was over and no other drugs were actually needed when I was discharged..Why is it so friggin complicated these days? Why do we go from one dependancy to the other? It just doesn't make sense to me..I love Buprinex..It saved me life...

MARTY:

YOU HAVE BASICALLY ANSWERED YOUR OWN QUESTION. IF YOUR WIFE CAN FUNCTION WITHOUT THE MEDS, SHE LIKELY IS AN ADDICT. WHICH BRINGS ME TO AN IMPORTANT DISTINCTION: ADDICT V. PHYSICAL DEPENDENCE. AN ADDICT HAD A PSYCHOLOGICAL PROBLEM THEY ARE SEEKING TO MEDICATE; A PERSON WITH CHRONIC PAIN FROM A DIAGNOSABLE CONDITIO0--MINE IS POST CANCER SURGICAL PAIN HAS A PHYSICAL DEPENDENCE AFTER BEING ON OPIATE/OPIODS FOR TREATMENT OF SUCH PAIN. i AM A PROFESSIONAL WHO FOUND I SIMPLY COULD NOT WORK WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF AN OPIATE MEDICATION TO CONTROL THE ACHING, NERVE PAIN, TINGLING AND NUMBNESS THAT IS WITH ME NEARLY CONSTANTLY. I AM CAREFULLY MONITORED BY MY DRS. AND MY FAMILY WATCHES FOR PROBLEMS THAT COULD ARISE WITH MEMORY, ETC. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THE DEA/GOVERNMENT HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THESE MEDICATIONS OR THEIR CONTROL UNTIL THE CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES ACT OF 1972. I ALSO FIND IT CURIOUS THAT DUE AT LEAST IN PART TO THIS ACT AND ITS CONTROL OF MARIJUANA, WHICH I DO NOT USE, AND DUE TO THE OPIATE PROBLEMS, WE HAVE THE HIGHEST RATE OF INCARCERATION OF ANY OF OUR PEER COUNTRIES AND WE RANK RIGHT UP THERE WITH IRAN AND THAT SORT IN TERMS OF THE NUMBER OF OUR CITIZENS WE PUT IN JAIL. I FOR ONE WOULD LIKE THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF MY DOCTOR'S OFFICE. I DO NOT BELIEVE OUR POLITICIANS KNOW MORE THAN OUR MEDICAL COMMUNITY ABOUT HOW TO TREAT CHRONIC PAIN, MENTAL ILLNESS AND ADDICTION. TELL YOUR POLITICAL LEADER TO LEAVE THE DOCTOR ALONE AND FOCUS ON THE CRIMINALS WHO ASSAULT US, STEAL FROM US, RAPE US, MURDER US, ETC. LET OUR DOCTORS DECIDE WHAT THE BEST MEDICINE IS FOR EACH OF US.

Hi, Peggy. I hope things are getting better for you now. Have they? What's going on? It is hard to trust a doctor, especially when so many end up having to deal with drug addiction due to the mismanaged prescription from said doctor. Finding a substance abuse treatment specialist might help. What do you think? Any other ideas?
