Heath Ledger Dies of Prescription Painkiller Overdose

Jan 23rd

heath ledgerThe story according to the New York Post is this: Heath Ledger, the Oscar-nominated actor, died of a pain pill overdose. Was it suicide? They don’t think so. He had prescriptions for the Vicodin and Xanax that were the apparent cause of his death.

The story is that he split up with his ex-fiancee, Michelle Williams, in September, losing both her and the daily presence of his little 2 year old, Mathilda. He was devastated and in need of anti-anxiety medication, which he received and indulged in a bit too much. He was found naked in his Broome Street loft by his maid and a masseuse whom he had scheduled for this afternoon. Unable to be revived by paramedics, Ledger was pronounced dead at 3:35 pm EST.

An anonymous source says that, “Heath was shattered by his split from Michelle. He became a recluse. He barely slept, he was dealing with terrible mood swings. He adored his daughter Mathilda, and when Michelle called it quits, he missed Matilda so much that he was thrown into a deep dark depression.”

If an accidental drug overdose can happen to an Oscar-nominated movie star with everything going for him, including a beautiful and adoring daughter, a booming career and the means to pay for a $23,000-per-month loft, then what about the rest of us? It just goes to show that prescription painkillers can be deadly even in the hands of someone with the highest paid doctors, nutritionists and psychiatrists at their beck and call.

The fact remains that opiate pain pills are a dangerous undertaking, whether you first begin to take them due to intense emotional or physical pain. Physiologically, they are addictive and when you are under the influence, it is no simple feat to discern what is a logical and healthy dose. Is it your body or the drugs telling you need to take more? And who can you count on to be the voice of reason?

Once you recognize that you have an opiate drug addiction, it is incumbent upon you to the next step and get control of it. A Suboxone treatment can help you do that. WOW. What a bunch of crap! So this is how you lure families to your treatment facilities. FEAR! It’s amazing that you know what killed Heath before his actual doctors do. SHAME ON YOU!!! I can’t believe you would use this story to put money in your pockets before the facts are on the table! & more importantly berfore the man is cold!
REALLY MAKES ONE WONDER IF YOU CARE ABOUT PEOPLE AT ALL. Just get the money!!!
What is your actual success rate for KEEPING your clients off drugs??? 2%??? While I’m sure you’re driving around in expensive cars

Hmm. At the time that this was posted, it was widely reported that the cause of Heath’s death was accidental overdose, so I shared what was common knowledge at the time. LET IT BE KNOWN: There were, at last count, 13 different types of pills found in Heath’s room and system on the date of his death. Pending an autopsy, an official notification of his COD remains unknown. Officially.

And as far as fear is concerned, sometimes people need to see a real live example to realize what is happening with themselves and what the dangers are. One of the biggest problems with prescription drugs is that people believe that they are safe because a doctor gave them a prescription. I’m certainly no fan of Heath Ledger and yet I had the same reaction to the news of his death as I did when Chris Farley died and when John Candy died and River Phoenix died–it’s jarring. It’s sad, and it IS scary. I know people who are getting their pills off the street without any doctor’s supervision, who don’t have the kind of money to have in-home visits by a masseuse–or even a home–and I’m scared for them. I’m scared for their well-being, so if fear is what it takes to convince someone that a physical addiction to painkillers is not a serious problem then I don’t oppose it.

And expensive cars? Well, if you consider outright ownership of a bus pass living the high life, then you nailed it!

[…] much an accepted fact. I apologize to those who don’t want to believe that it’s true, but like I’ve said before, Heath’s death only proves that even with a ton of money, even when everything is legally […]
