Celebrity Rehab Profile: Robin Williams
It’s a brand new year and with the change of date often comes a change of heart. Resolutions are fun to make and can be as exciting as the fireworks at midnight. The idea of a new you is often enough to propel you through the first few weeks of the new year but your good intentions fizzle under the weight of the same old responsibilities at work and at home. Resolving to get clean and kick your prescription painkiller habit is an excellent new year’s resolution, and in an effort to help you on your way, I’m going to profile a few celebs who have made the same resolution.
The first profile is on Robin Williams. One of the funniest men in Hollywood, Robin Williams has struggled with drug addiction and alcoholism from the beginning of his career. Something of a wild man in his youth, he pushed himself to his physical limits with abuse of a number of different drugs. His change of heart came when fellow comedian and close friend, John Belushi , died of an overdose. Belushi had attempted rehab multiple times but was eventually eclipsed by drug addiction. Seeing his own actions mirrored in his friend’s, Williams took the initiative and enrolled himself in a rehab facility.
Anyone who has been addicted to multiple drugs will tell you: the first trip to rehab isn’t always the last. And for Williams, this was the case as well. Later in his life when he found himself drinking again, he quickly turned himself into another rehab to clean up before his drug use spiraled out of control. Good for you, Robin! You’re an inspiration to us all.
There’s nothing like success to encourage more success. If you have resolved to break your addiction to opiate painkillers with a medical detox like Suboxone treatment, then congratulations! You’ve taken the first step that will find you more clearheaded in just a couple weeks and addiction-free in a couple months. Enjoy your newfound clarity and health and have a great ’08.
