Celebrity Drug Rehab Profile: Daniel Baldwin
Daniel Baldwin is better known for his association with his two brothers, Alec and Stephen, than for his own acting career. He’s done a bit of producing and directing work as well, but his most famous exploits are off camera, including a cocaine-induced streaking incident in New York’s Plaza Hotel and arrest for grand theft auto among other things. Now, he’s one of the star addicts on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab, a reality TV show featuring the ins and outs of the rehabilitation experience of these former or quasi celebrities as run by Dr. Pinsky.
We’ve already looked at a few different profiles for those on the show—Mary Carey, Jeff Conaway—and we continue with Daniel Baldwin. His drug of choice is cocaine and his self-appointed role on the show is that of a retread, or one who has been through drug rehab a number of times before. We see him often in the act of giving “tough love” advice to those who are wavering: calling out Jeff Conaway for (allegedly) bringing drugs into the facility, reassuring Jessica Sierra choosing anything but rehab is a death sentence. I’ve seen this type of personality in rehab quite a bit and where their presence can be beneficial for those around them in the way of support, it’s a common technique to help them take the focus off of their own problems and focus on those around them.
When you are undergoing a Suboxone treatment, you are left to your own devices as you try to get better. You don’t have the benefit of retreads, counselors or anyone else that you might find in a rehab facility, though you do have is the genuine and loving support of your family and friends who care about you and truly want the best for you. If you find yourself using pulling a Baldwin and spending more time on everyone else in your life than on yourself, notice it and try to focus a little bit more on taking care of yourself. You may have developed a drug addiction accidentally and undergoing treatment is the best way to take care of it, but it is an illness, a disease, and you deserve some special consideration. Try to take time out to treat yourself: take a walk each day, get a massage, eat right and exercise gently, attend anonymous support group meetings if you feel like you are missing out on the high associated with opiate prescription medications, and see a therapist if you are having difficulty with the treatment.
If you allow Meditox to help you with your treatment, you can call them any time of day with questions and help finding local support.
