Anna Nicole: Prescription Painkiller Overdose

Dec 19th

anna nicole overdoseWhen they did the autopsy on Anna Nicole Smith last year, Florida officials found the cause to be prescription painkiller overdose. Some of the nine drugs found in her system included methadone as well as a number of anti-anxiety opiate medications. Her son, Daniel, died a few days early, also a victim of prescription opiate medication overdose, methadone and other anti-depression drugs.

The big epiphany: none of the drugs were illegal. And yet, an overdose death was still the result.

Prescription drugs, though legal, are hardly safe. Those who are not used to any opiates at all can easily overdose. Even those who have been taking the same prescription for years may find that too many pills or a sudden change in their medication can cause seizure, coma or even be fatal.

The bottom line is this: if you are addicted to prescription painkillers, the risk of overdose is always a factor. The only way to effectively wipe out any risk is to treat your opiate addiction with a Suboxone detox. You don’t need to sign up at an inpatient rehab facility or drastically change your life, but you can protect your health by choosing an outpatient Suboxone treatment that allows you to maintain your commitments and live up to your responsibilities. It’s worth the time to at least explore your options.
